Read through this basic good to know instructions on how to take care of your tutu. Tulle is used in most of the Little Girl Mart tutus. It’s a very fine netting that doesn’t fray or ravel when you cut it. Tulle is made from silk, cotton, nylon or rayon it needs to be handled and washed with care.
Spot Wash by Hand: Most spills will come out of tulle with a bit of water and gentle hand rubbing. This is very delicate fabric and will tear easily in a washing machine. Wash your tutu by hand or fill a bathtub with cold water. Cold water is the best temperature for washing tutus without damaging it. It’s also the most color-friendly temperature. Add a small amount of a very mild detergent such as Woolite. Swish it around a few times from side to side, take it out of the tub and rinse it with clean water. Re-fluff and hang dry for best results. DO NOT dry tutus in dryer!
Re-Fluff: Tulle should bounce back to its original fullness with a bit of hand fluffing. You can also run cold water over the tutu until the entire garment is completely soaked. Gently shake it to get rid of excess water. Using a skirt hanger, hang the tutu upside down to dry. The water will weigh the material down, pull out the wrinkles and re-fluff.
Remove Wrinkles: Try to finger comb out the wrinkles and hang it up. If it’s real wrinkled, use steam from a steamer or put in the bathroom with the door closed and a hot shower running…the steam from the shower usually does the trick. You could also hold it over a boiling pot of water and the steam will bring back it’s original fullness. Never use a hot iron to take out wrinkles.
