“Billiards” refers to games including pool, snooker, english billiards, even sometimes relating to carom. Pool is the game most well known. I see pool tables everywhere, but I haven’t seen a carom board in over a decade. No, that’s not true. I saw one last year at a flea market. But they’re not very common!
Pool is a game played by all walks of life, not just your stereotypical bar-regular. Though you are hard up to find a bar without one. Pool is a recreational pastime that has been around for ages. The history of the game of pool is interesting. It began outdoors, being played on grass, much in the same way we play croquet today. When it moved to an indoor game, green cloth (or felt now) was chosen to simulate the color of the grass.
Pool is a game that requires A LOT of practice. Striking a cue ball with accuracy works muscles that won’t get exercised in the same way doing any other activity. So the best pool players are those that play all. the. time. Because the game is so fun, if time allows, it’s quite easy to get sucked into 4 hours of play before you realize so much time has flown by. Most people learn their skills by being taught little tricks here and there.
Playing a game of pool together is a great way to pass a hot summer day for a father and son. Of course you’re going to need to find a table not inside a bar, but that’s easy! Local arcades and nearby university student union buildings are two more common places. If you have access to a table, your son would appreciate nothing more than a trip out with his dad to go shoot pool. Not only will he get that father/son time that is very important to the healthy growth of a child, but he’s going to learn about physics and geometry and sportsmanship.
Make the whole day an event he’ll remember forever. Start off the day with a wrapped gift (which luckily for you is on sale for only one more day) that will get him pumped!
