Dear Annabelle,
Hi there! I am a long time customer of your store and can’t believe it took me this long to discover that you have a weekly blog! I must say I have loved your costume ideas and want to toss in a question of my own for one! I have been hunting online for cute DIY costumes and saw a really cute pumpkin one. I would really like to make one of these for my daughter but have no idea where to start! I just remember seeing lots of green and orange tulle. Any help but would great! I’m curious to see what you can cokme up with! All your costumes so far have been so cute! Tammy (Newark, New Jersey)
Hi Tammy!
Thank you for your long time patronage of Kay Boutique and we are so glad that you have found our blog! We really enjoy connecting directly with our customers and posting on the blog is a great way to do just that! We are able to spread the word on new products we just got in or sales we are currently having. And also for fun craft ideas!
We think a pumpkin is a great Halloween costume idea and we couldn’t wait to get started on it! We searched over our products for what would work best and then put it all together!
We started with a Crochet Tube Top in Orange ( you could use brown or green) and cut two inch strips of green tulle and laced them through the top to create some soft foliage. We then used a length of brown tulle to use for the strap around the neck and tied it in the back.
We went with our most fluffy tutu, 5 Layer Tutu, and pulled it right up to under the green tulle rather than around the waist so we could have more volume for the body of the pumpkin. They are round after all!
For the headpiece we used our 2.5 Inch Crochet Headbands in Olive and attached a Chunky Polka Dot Hair Bow with clip in Tangerine. You could use a brown or orange headband if you preferred. You could also change the style and color of the bow as well depending on your tastes.
We also like the idea of pairing this costume with some Halloween themed leg warmers to wear beneath the tutu. So cute!
It took us less than 30 minutes to put the entire look together and you can do it for less than $20! We hope you love the costume we put together and if you have any more ideas you’d like us to put together just email us at ask@kayboutique.com.
